Police in Smyrna, Georgia, Make Arrest in Fatal Pedestrian Crash Case

SMYRNA, GA. – According to an online news report published at fox5atlanta.com, police in Smyrna, Georgia, have made an arrest in the case of a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred January 17. Police had been looking for the driver, who fled the scene after the collision, and they asked for the public’s help in locating him.* 

The crash occurred at about 6:40 p.m. on January 17. A vehicle traveling on South Cobb Drive struck a pedestrian at the intersection with Ask Kay Drive. The vehicle driver then fled the scene. 

“The driver of the suspect vehicle initially stopped, realized what he had done, but then got back in his car and left the scene,” said Sgt. Louis Defense with the Smyrna Police Department. Police assumedly gained this information from surveillance footage obtained from the scene. 

The pedestrian died at the scene. Initially, police were having troubling identifying the victim, and they asked for the public’s assistance, releasing a description of the man to the media. His name has now been released: Raul Romero Dominquez, of Smyrna. His age was not reported, but he was described as being in his 50s or 60s in earlier reports. 

Officers also asked for the public’s help in identifying and locating the missing driver. They released a description of the driver and his vehicle, which had a distinct front license plate. Gabriel Alex Cammon, of Powder Springs, Georgia, has now been arrested for the offense and charged with felony hit-and-run, improper use of the center turn lane, and driving with a suspended license. 

Cammon’s age was not reported, but earlier reports said he was in his 20s or 30s. He is being held at the Cobb County Detention Center without bond.
