Man Dies in Single-Car Accident in Tattnall County, Georgia
TATTNALL COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story reported by wtoc.com, a man died January 20 in a single-car accident in Tattnall County, Georgia. The accident also resulted in a loss of power for numerous residents in the area, as the man’s vehicle crashed into a utility pole near Georgia Highway 144.*
The accident happened in the early morning hours of January 20. At approximately 3 a.m., a Ford Focus was traveling on Harris Kicklighter Road in Tattnall County. It is not clear what direction the vehicle was traveling, but as it approached Georgia Highway 144, the driver attempted to negotiate a curve and lost control.
The Ford left the roadway and became airborne, then struck a utility pole. The vehicle then flipped several times and landed near a tree. Photos from the scene show the blue vehicle turned on its side with extensive damage.
The driver of the Ford was trapped in the vehicle after the crash, and emergency responders worked for 30 minutes to free him. He suffered critical injuries and died at the scene, according to Georgia State Patrol. His name has not been released at this time, as next-of-kin still needs to be notified.
After initial investigation, Troopers believe that speed and weather played a role in the accident. The road was wet at the time of the crash, and they believe the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. Due to the crash with the utility pole, about 100 residents in the area lost power. Power crews worked to restore electricity to the area during the morning.
