One Teen Killed, One Injured in Single-Vehicle Wreck in Coweta County, Georgia

January 25, 2019

COWETA COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report published at times-herald.com, one teenager was killed, and another was injured January 20 in a single-vehicle wreck in Coweta County, Georgia. Neither teen has been identified, and the cause of the accident has not yet been determined.*

The accident occurred sometime in the afternoon on January 20, though reports did not specify what time. An Infiniti (model not reported) traveling north on Smokey Road in Coweta County suddenly left the roadway. It is not clear where in the road the incident occurred, as no nearby intersection was provided.

The Infiniti was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to negotiate a curve. The driver then somehow lost control and drove off the road, after which the vehicle went airborne and hit several trees. Authorities did not provide any information about the cause of the accident or any circumstances that might have contributed to the accident. No additional vehicles were involved.

Both the driver of the Infiniti and a passenger inside were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to Georgia State Patrol. They were both entrapped in the vehicle and extricated by Coweta County Fire Rescue. The 17-year-old driver was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center, where his or her current condition is not known.

The 16-year-old passenger sustained severe injuries and tragically died at the scene. The names of the driver and the passenger have not been released at this time.

Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate this accident, and Troopers have not released further information.
