January 25, 2019

ATLANTA, GA. – According to an online news story reported at ajc.com, a pedestrian died at a hospital January 19 after being hit by a vehicle in Atlanta, Georgia. The pedestrian’s death was unexpected, as police had reported him in stable condition following the crash. The victim has not been identified.*

The incident occurred on January 19 at the intersection of Rogers Avenue and Cascade Road in Atlanta. At about 8 p.m., a pedestrian was walking across the intersection, and a vehicle (make and model not reported) struck him. It is not clear which direction the vehicle was traveling or which direction the man was walking. Reports indicate the man was inside a designated crosswalk at the time.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not been identified, stayed at the scene and spoke to police. The driver told officers he or she did not see the pedestrian before the collision. The pedestrian sustained a broken leg but was alert and otherwise stable after the crash, according to police. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital for treatment, and police indicated he was expected to survive.

Approximately two hours after the collision, however, the man died at the hospital. The name of the hospital has not been disclosed, and no cause of death has been released. The man’s name, age, and city of residence have also not been reported at this time.

At the scene, officers cited the driver for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. It is not clear at this time whether the driver will now be charged in connection with the man’s death. The incident is still under investigation, and no further information has yet been released.
