Sheriff’s Deputy Crashes into Gas Station in Monroe, Georgia

January 25, 2019

MONROE, GA. – A deputy with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office crashed his patrol vehicle into the side of a gas station building January 22 in Monroe, Georgia, according to an online news story published at cbs46.com. The deputy and an employee inside the gas station were injured in the collision.*

At approximately 6:20 a.m. on January 22, an unidentified Rockdale County Sheriff’s deputy was driving his patrol vehicle westbound on Georgia Highway 10 Business. Two dogs reportedly entered the roadway in front of the deputy, and he swerved to avoid hitting the animals. The deputy’s vehicle then traveled off the road and ran into some bushes and a street sign near the Taco Bell restaurant on the highway.

His vehicle continued to travel west, running into another sign and a utility pole. The vehicle then crossed over Breedlove Drive and slammed into the side of a gas station on West Spring Street. A photo from the scene shows the vehicle halfway through the brick wall of the building, with a massive hole in the shape of the car.

Reports indicate the vehicle hit a wall inside of the building, and that wall collapsed on top of an employee of the gas station. The employee was injured, and emergency responders transported him or her to a local hospital for treatment. The employee has not been identified, and the extent of his or her injuries was not reported.

The deputy was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. The nature of his injuries was not reported. It is still not clear why the deputy traveled so far after swerving off the road or why he crashed into the gas station building. Authorities are still investigating, and they have not yet released further information.
