January 21, 2019

HORRY COUNTY, SC. – A driver has been criminally charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in Horry County, South Carolina, according to a news story from wmbfnews.com. The crash killed a pedestrian and injured several others. The victim has been identified by officials.*

A Nissan was traveling south on South Carolina Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach, Horry County, South Carolina. Near the Bass Pro Shop on Highway 17, the Nissan hit two pedestrians and then crashed into a Toyota that was also traveling south on Highway 17. The makes of the Nissan and the Toyota were not reported.

One of the pedestrians died in the crash. The Horry County Coroner’s Office has identified her as 32-year-old Ashlin Monteforte, of Myrtle Beach. It is not clear which direction Monteforte or the other pedestrian were walking at the time of the crash. Reports did not indicate whether they were on the side of the road or were crossing the road.

The other pedestrian and the driver of the Nissan were injured, and emergency crews transported them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their injuries were reportedly non-life threatening. It does not appear the driver of the Toyota was injured. Reports seem to indicate passengers were riding in the Toyota and the Nissan, and it does not appear they were injured. Everyone was wearing seat belts, according to authorities.

The driver of the Nissan was arrested after being released from treatment. Her name has been released, but her age and city of residence have not. Alaina Marie Young has been charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death. It is not clear when she will appear in court.
