Driver Killed in Single-Car Wreck on I-26 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC. – A driver was killed in a single-car wreck that occurred on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, according to an online news story reported at The victim has not been identified, pending notification of next-of-kin.* 

The crash occurred on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County. At approximately 6:30 p.m., a Honda (model not reported) traveling west on I-26 somehow left the roadway. It appears the driver of the Honda lost control of the vehicle in the area of mile marker 153. The Honda drove off the left side of the interstate, where it struck several trees and turned onto its side. 

It is not yet clear what caused the driver to lose control and drive off the roadway. South Carolina Highway Patrol did not identify any reasons for the incident or indicate factors they might investigate that could have caused the crash. 

The driver of the Honda was not wearing a seat belt, according to Troopers, and was ejected during the crash. The driver did not survive, and officials pronounced him or her dead at the scene. The driver has not been identified, as next-of-kin have not yet been notified by authorities. 

Three passengers were in the Honda at the time of the crash, as well. They were all wearing seat belts, Troopers said, and they sustained minor injuries. Reports said they were treated for these injuries, but it is not clear whether they were treated at the scene or transported to a local hospital. None of the passengers has been identified. 

South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office are still investigating.
