Car Crashes into Convenience Store in DeKalb County, Georgia

January 20, 2019

DEKALB COUNTY, GA. – A car crashed into a convenience store on January 14 in DeKalb County, Georgia, according to an online news report from fox5atlanta.com. The driver, who has not been identified, told police that he or she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.*

The incident occurred on the evening of January 14 in DeKalb County, but it is not clear what time. Sometime before 11:30 p.m. that day, a vehicle that was in the parking lot of the Circle K convenience store on Chamblee-Tucker Road somehow crashed into the front of the building.

Photos from the scene show that the vehicle broke through the front glass doors and drove partway into the store. The front exterior of the store was extremely damaged, with debris scattered on the sidewalk outside. The inside of the store was also in disarray. Items were spilled, glass was spread across the floor, and yellow caution tape marked the area where the vehicle came to a rest.

Luckily, no one was injured in the accident. The driver of the vehicle told authorities that he or she hit the wrong pedal. When meaning to press on the brake pedal, the driver pressed on the acceleration pedal. It is not clear if the driver was coming to the store or trying to leave the store. The make and model of the vehicle were not included in reports, and the driver was not identified.

A man who was inside the convenience store said the car was close to hitting him, but he was able to jump out of the way in time. This same man then pulled the driver out of the vehicle to safety. He has not been identified.

It is not clear whether the driver was cited or charged because of the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
