Three Injured in Multi-Vehicle Wreck in Newnan, Georgia

January 19, 2019

NEWNAN, GA. – According to a news report published online at times-herald.com, three people, including two children, were injured January 14 in a multi-vehicle wreck in Newnan, Georgia. The accident occurred in a chain reaction, starting with a rear-end collision on Georgia Highway 16.*

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on January 14, a 2012 Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on Georgia Highway 16 in Newnan. Near the area of Elders Mill Road, traffic was stopped on the highway. Reports did not indicate if the traffic was stopped for a traffic signal, a vehicle wreck, or some other reason.

The driver of the Jeep failed to slow down and rear-ended a 2001 Honda Civic that was also in the westbound lane. The impact of this collision sent the Honda into the back of a westbound Chrysler 200. The Honda then continued forward and crossed into the eastbound lane of the highway. The Honda then traveled off the highway and came to a rest in a parking lot.

Three people in the Honda, including an adult and two children, were airlifted from the scene to Atlanta Medical Center. The children are reportedly age 8 and age 7. The extent of their injuries and their current medical conditions were not reported. Authorities did not say whether the children were wearing seat belts or were in safety seats at the time of the crash.

The drivers of the Jeep and the Chrysler were not taken anywhere beyond the scene for treatment. No one involved in the accident has been identified. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash and has not released additional information at this time.
