Vehicle Crashes into Back of Tractor-Trailer Near Georgia Border on I-20
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC. – A vehicle crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 20 in North Augusta, South Carolina, according to an online news report from wrdw.com. The accident occurred on January 13, right near the border between Georgia and South Carolina.*
At approximately 5 p.m. on January 13, a tractor-trailer was pulled over in the shoulder of eastbound Interstate 20, between Exit 1 and Exit 5 in North Augusta. It is not yet clear why the tractor-trailer was pulled over. A 2004 Ford Taurus traveling east on the interstate then somehow crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer.
Authorities have not indicated what caused the driver of the Ford to crash into the tractor-trailer. They did not indicate whether they were investigating any potential contributing factors to the crash.
The driver of the Ford, who has not been identified, was seriously injured. Emergency responders took him or her to a local hospital for treatment, and his or her current medical condition has not been reported. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who has also not been identified, was not injured in the collision. It does not appear any passengers were in either vehicle.
Both lanes of I-20 East were shut down after the accident to allow crews to investigate and clear the scene. Photos from the scene show the tractor-trailer still in the shoulder with damage to the back end. There was also a large amount of debris in the roadway.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this accident, and Troopers have not reported additional information at this time.
