One Killed, Several Injured in Head-On Crash in Goldsboro, North Carolina

GOLDSBORO, NC. – According to a news story published online at wral.com, one person was killed and several other injured January 12 in a head-on vehicle collision in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The crash, which happened on U.S. Highway 117, started with a wrong-way driver.* 

The crash occurred in the early evening on January 12 on U.S. Highway 117 in Goldsboro. At about 5:30 p.m., for unknown reasons, a 2004 Ford Freestar van was traveling south in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 117. The Ford van then collided head-on with a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. 

The Silverado truck was hauling a trailer at the time of the crash. After the initial impact, a third vehicle became involved in the wreck. A 2002 Ford Explorer passing through the area hit some debris from the crash.

It is not clear where on the highway the crash occurred or why the driver of the Ford was traveling in the wrong direction on the highway. Police have not identified any potential reasons for the driver’s actions at this time. 

The driver of the Ford van was fatally injured in the wreck and died at the scene. He has been identified as 26-year-old Dallas Ray Foss, of Kenansville, North Carolina. A teenage passenger in the Ford van was seriously injured, and a medical helicopter airlifted her to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina. She has been identified as 17-year-old Alexandria Barraza, of Mount Olive, North Carolina, and is reportedly in critical condition. 

The driver of the Chevy Silverado sustained minor injuries, and an ambulance crew transported him to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. He has been identified as 22-year-old Michael Mckinny (city not reported). 

The driver of the Ford Explorer was not injured in the crash. He has been identified as 61-year-old Willis Levis Smith, of Goldsboro.
