Drunk Driver Causes Fatal Collision with School Bus in High Point, NC

HIGH POINT, NC. – As reported online in a news story from, police say a drunk driver is to blame for a crash with a school bus in High Point, North Carolina, that killed one woman. The drunk driver and the victim have been identified by officials.* 

On the afternoon of January 15, Richard Wall (age and city not reported) was driving a Chrysler 200 in High Point. Around 3 p.m., police say Wall ran a stop sign at the intersection of Oneka Avenue and Meredith Street. In running the stop sign, he traveled into the path of a school bus, and the bus hit the passenger’s side of the Chrysler. 

Both the bus and the Chrysler then continued onto Oneka Avenue and crashed into the side of a house located in the 1600 block of the street. Wall was ejected from the vehicle. It is not clear if he was wearing a seat belt at the time. He sustained serious injuries, and emergency responders took him to a local hospital for treatment. 

A passenger in the front seat of the Chrysler was critically injured in the crash. An ambulance crew transported her to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where officials pronounced her dead about four hours after the accident. She has been identified as 29-year-old Shena J. Montgomery, of Bladen County, North Carolina. 

It is not clear whether anyone on the bus, which was a Guilford County Schools bus, was injured. No one on the bus, including the driver, has been identified.

Police say Wall was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Charges are pending the outcome of the full investigation.
