Driver Crashes into Gas Pump After Chase with Georgia State Patrol
DEKALB COUNTY, GA. – A driver crashed into a gas pump in DeKalb County, Georgia, after a chase with Georgia State Patrol on January 16, according to a news report published online at fox5atlanta.com. The incident started with a traffic stop on Interstate 20 and ended with the crash.*
The incident occurred on January 14, but reports did not say what time that day. An unidentified Georgia State Patrol Trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on Interstate 20 East in the area of Capitol Avenue in DeKalb County. The make and model of the vehicle the Trooper stopped was not reported.
Instead of pulling over for the stop, the driver of the vehicle fled. The driver continued east on I-20 and exited at Gresham Road. The vehicle then veered from the exit ramp into the parking lot of a Texaco gas station, where it hit the gas station’s business sign and smashed into one of the gas pumps.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene. It is not clear if he was injured. He has been identified as 29-year-old Fidel Corfah, of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Upon Corfah’s arrest, authorities learned he had a suspended driver’s license and had outstanding warrants in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Georgia State Patrol did not comment on the circumstances of the stop or the chase. The case is still under investigation at this time.
The owner of the gas station, who was not identified, told reporters that two other officer chases in the past had ended with fleeing suspects crashing into his business sign.
