Driver Arrested in Georgia After Fatal Crash in Tennessee

ATLANTA, GA. – According to an online news story published at, a driver who was on the run after a January 3 fatal vehicle crash in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia. The crash killed two people and left one person in critical condition.*

On January 3, 26-year-old Dwight Turner Jr. (city not reported) was driving a Dodge Ram on South Holtzclaw Avenue in Chattanooga. Two women were in the Dodge with Turner at this time: 22-year-old Hailee Freedom Hicks (city not reported) and Sara Ashlee Meredith (age and city not reported). 

In the 1400 block of South Holtzclaw Avenue, Turner crashed into a Chrysler TWC van. It is not clear how the crash occurred. Reports did not provide any information about the circumstances of the crash. 

Two passengers in the Chrysler van died in the crash. They have not been identified at this time by officials. The driver of the van was seriously injured and is reportedly still in critical condition. The driver has also not been identified. 

After the crash, Turner, Hicks, and Meredith left the scene. It is not clear if they drove away or if they left on foot. The Chattanooga Police Department was actively searching for all three for several days and released a description of Turner to the news media. On or about January 16, police arrested Turner in Atlanta, Georgia. He has been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle and one count of aggravated assault. 

Near the same time, police also arrested Hicks and Meredith. It is not clear where they were at the time of their arrests. Both have been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury.
