Police in Savannah, Georgia, Investigating Shooting, Motorcycle Crash

January 19, 2019

SAVANNAH, GA. – According to a news story reported online at wsav.com, police in Savannah, Georgia, are investigating a shooting and a motorcycle crash that occurred in the same area on January 15. After initial investigation, police have determined the two incidents are related. One person sustained injuries.*

At approximately 5 p.m. on January 15, the Savannah Police Department responded to calls regarding shots fired and a motorcycle accident in the same area of the city. At the intersection of Paige Avenue and Second Avenue in Savannah, officers found an injured motorcyclist. The Suzuki motorcycle had been involved in an accident with a vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was no longer at the scene.

Police investigated and found that the accident and the shots fired were connected. It appears a person fired gunshots in the area and then attempted to flee the scene. In fleeing, the person ran a stop sign at the intersection of Paige and Second and struck the motorcyclist. The driver reportedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

The motorcyclist was seriously injured, and emergency responders transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Officials have identified him as 20-year-old Jose Pacheco (city not reported). Pacheco’s current medical condition was not reported.

No one was injured in the shooting, but officers said they identified property damage from the incident. A description of the vehicle has not been released, and the driver has not been identified. Police say they have interviewed a suspect but did not say whether this person has been placed under arrest.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the accident is encouraged to call the Savannah Police Department at (912) 525-3124 or Crime Stoppers at (912) 234-2020.
