January 16, 2019

EAST POINT, GA. – A man died after being hit by two vehicles and dragged down a road in East Point, Georgia, according to an online news report from 11alive.com. Police are looking for the drivers of the two cars, both of whom left the scene.*

The incident occurred at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Sylvan Road in East Point. An unidentified man was walking in the roadway and was struck by two cars. One of the cars dragged the victim’s body about a quarter mile into the Atlanta city limits. Neither driver stopped, and the man died at the scene.

Another report about the incident says the owner of a laundromat on Cleveland Avenue, Wilbur Yancy, saw the victim’s body on the edge of his business’s parking lot and called 911. Right after that, he saw an ambulance and flagged it down. The ambulance crew was already in the area on a report of a pedestrian hit-and-run, and they were looking for the victim.

Neighbors in the area said they knew the victim, and he frequently walked across Cleveland Avenue to run errands for people in the neighborhood.

Police are searching for the vehicles and drivers involved. Surveillance footage recovered from the area shows the two vehicles. One is a 2009 Ford Fusion with left front-end damage and a missing left mirror. The other vehicle is a green older model Buick Century. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-TIPS or East Point Detective Ebony Bullock at (404) 270-7069.
