Bicyclist Killed in Crash on Highway 388 in Bay County, Florida

BAY COUNTY, FL. – A bicyclist was killed in a traffic crash on January 8 on Highway 388 in Bay County, Florida, according to an online news report from The bicyclist was reportedly a 43-year-old man from Illinois. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined by officials.*

The accident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, January 8, though reports did not say what time in the evening. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers say a man was riding a bicycle on Highway 388 in Bay County, when a vehicle struck him. It is not clear what direction the bicyclist was traveling, but reports indicate the vehicle was traveling east. 

The bicyclist suffered severe injuries and did not survive. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene. He has been identified as 43-year-old Stanimir Yordanov, of Schaumburg, Illinois. Troopers did not say why Yordanov was in Florida at the time of the accident. 

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and spoke to authorities. It does not appear she was injured in the accident. She has been identified as 39-year-old Lisa Lefurge, of Panama City, Florida. The make and model of her vehicle was not reported. 

Troopers did not identify any factors that influenced the crash and did not indicate whether a citation was issued to Lefurge or whether charges would be pursued against her.

After the crash, both lanes of Highway 388 were shut down to allow Florida Highway Patrol and emergency crews to investigate and clear the scene. The lanes remained closed for more than an hour.
