Driver Charged in Fatal Vehicle Crash in Pinebluff, North Carolina
PINEBLUFF, NC. – According to an online news report from courier-tribune.com, a driver has been criminally charged in connection with a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred in Pinebluff, North Carolina. The accident happened on a U.S. highway, and investigators discovered one of the drivers had been impaired at the time of the collision.*
The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Addor Road in Pinebluff. Reports did not indicate which directions the vehicles were traveling, but a Toyota Camry and an Infiniti somehow crashed into each other at the intersection. The circumstances of the crash were not reported.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and found three people injured, one of whom was critically injured. The critically injured person needed a medical helicopter, but reports indicate one was not available. Emergency crews transported all three people by ambulance to a FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
The critically injured person died from his injuries at the hospital. He has been identified as 72-year-old Evon Anderson Hughes (city not reported). It is not clear which vehicle Hughes was in at the time of the crash.
One of the other injured persons was the driver of one of the vehicles, though it is not clear which vehicle. He has been identified as James Antonio Carter (age and city not reported). Investigators suspect Carter was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident, and Carter has been charged with DWI. Other charges against him are pending.
The third injured person has not been identified, and it is not clear which vehicle this person was inside at the time of the collision. No additional information is available at this time.
