Bicyclist Life-Flighted After Collision with Truck in Vanceboro, NC
VANCEBORO, NC. – A bicyclist was life-flighted from the scene of an accident January 2, after colliding with a pickup truck in Vanceboro, North Carolina, according to an online news report from wcti12.com. The accident occurred near a high school and closed down a roadway in Vanceboro.*
The accident occurred on River Road in Vanceboro. At approximately 8:30 p.m. a bicyclist was riding on River Road near the West Craven High School and somehow collided with a pickup truck. Officials did not indicate exactly how the accident occurred.
The driver of the pickup truck, who has not been identified, reported that the bicyclist was in the middle of the road, and the collision could not be avoided. It is not clear whether he meant the cyclist was riding down the middle of the road or was crossing the roadway. North Carolina State Troopers responded to the scene and indicated charges were not anticipated against the pickup driver.
The cyclist has not been identified. Emergency responders called for a medical helicopter, which landed at the West Craven recreational facility by the high school. The bicyclist was then life-flighted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina. The extent of his or her injuries is not known, and his or her current medical condition has not been reported.
Photos from the accident show the truck stopped in the opposite lane of the roadway with both front doors open. The bicycle landed in the ditch, and a hat and one shoe can be seen in the middle of the roadway, behind the pickup truck.
