Motorcyclist Killed in Gwinnett County, Georgia, Vehicle Crash

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story reported on ajc.com, a motorcyclist was killed in a vehicle collision in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The victim has been identified, and it appears he collided with an SUV on the evening of January 5. Officials do not intend to pursue charges against the SUV driver.* 

The circumstances of the crash have not yet been fully determined. At approximately 10 p.m. on January 5, a motorcyclist was traveling on Oak Street in Athens, Georgia. It is not clear what direction he was traveling or how fast he was traveling. At the intersection with Kent Street, an SUV pulled onto Oak Street, and the motorcyclist crashed into the SUV. 

It is not clear which way the SUV turned onto Oak Street or how that related to the direction the motorcyclist was traveling. The motorcyclist was seriously injured in the wreck, and emergency responders took him to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment. He later died from his injuries at the hospital. Officials have identified him as 31-year-old Terry Patterson, of Norcross, Georgia. 

The driver of the SUV has not been identified. It does not appear he or she was injured in the crash. The Athens Police Department indicated no charges would be filed against the driver, but they did not provide further information about why they did not believe the SUV driver was at fault. Additional information about the nature of the collision has not been released. 

Investigation is ongoing by Athens and Gwinnett County authorities, and no further information is available at this time.
