One Killed, Two Injured in Columbia County, Georgia, Car Crash

January 12, 2019

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report from wrdw.com, one person was killed and two people were injured in a car crash January 4 in Columbia County, Georgia. It is not yet clear what caused the crash, but it appears only one vehicle was involved.*

Sometime in the evening on January 4, a silver Nissan Sentra was traveling  eastbound on Interstate 20 East in Columbia County. There were at least three people in the Nissan at the time. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle and exited off the interstate onto the north shoulder.

Reports indicate the vehicle first left the roadway near mile marker 181 in Columbia County. The Nissan then struck a guardrail and drove through a wooded area on the side of the road, where it collided with a tree. It does not appear any other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

A passenger in the front seat of the Nissan, 27-year-old Barrington Allen, sustained critical injuries in the wreck. An ambulance transported him to Augusta Medical Center for treatment. Allen later died at the hospital. The Columbia County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy was scheduled at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab.

Reports initially said three people were injured in the crash, meaning two people were injured in addition to Allen. These two people have not been identified, and it is not known if they were taken anywhere for treatment. It is not clear if one of them was the driver of the Nissan.

Walker County officials are still in the process of investigating the single-vehicle crash, and they have not yet released further information. It is not clear if anyone will be charged.
