Baby in Critical Condition After Single-Vehicle Wreck in Atlanta

January 12, 2019

ATLANTA, GA. – A baby is in critical condition after a single-vehicle wreck in Atlanta, Georgia, a news story from reports. The accident resulted in injuries to the baby and a woman and in the death of another child. Police do not yet know the cause of the crash.*

The Atlanta Police Department reports that the crash happened around 6 a.m. on January 2. A vehicle — make and model not reported — somehow left the roadway at the intersection of Second Avenue and Glennwood Avenue in Atlanta and crashed into a tree. Police do not yet know what caused the crash, but officers said it does not appear that any other vehicles were involved. Officials believe this was a single-vehicle accident.

Three people were in the vehicle when it crashed: a 53-year-old woman, a young child around 9 to 14 years of age, and a baby around 9 to 10 months old. Atlanta Fire Department crews at the scene had to extricate all three people from the wrecked vehicle. Emergency responders transported both children to Egleston Hospital with serious injuries. The older child did not survive. Officials report the baby is still in critical condition.

The woman sustained fractures to both her legs, and an ambulance crew took her to Atlanta Medical Center. Her current condition is not known. Officials have not released the names of any of the victims.

Investigators in Atlanta are still reviewing the case to determine the cause of this crash. They initially considered a hit-and-run but have seemingly ruled that out. Investigators have not indicated any possible factors for the vehicle’s roadway departure and have not yet released further details.
