Georgia Pedestrian Injured in Collision with Cobb County Bus

COBB COUNTY, GA. – A pedestrian was critically injured in a collision with a Cobb County, Georgia, bus, according to an online news report from The pedestrian has not been identified at this time and is still hospitalized.*

The collision occurred in Cobb County. A CobbLinc bus was traveling on South Marietta Parkway and approaching South Fairground Street, when a pedestrian walked into the roadway. It appears she was trying to cross the street at the time. The pedestrian has only been identified as a woman; Her name has not been released. 

Police described the incident as the pedestrian failing to yield to the bus. There was a crosswalk nearby, but the woman was not walking inside it, and officers said she stepped into the path of the bus.

“The pedestrian, who was walking northbound, was outside of a designated crosswalk,” said Officer Jared Rakestraw, of the Marietta Police Department. “[The bus driver] attempted to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to.”

The impact took place about 250 feet from the crosswalk, according to authorities. The driver of the CobbLinc bus has been identified as 46-year-old Richard Morton, of Marietta, Georgia. Morton and six passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash, and none of them was injured. 

The pedestrian was transported via ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries. She is said to be in critical condition. 

Marietta police officers are still investigating the crash and have not yet released further information to the public.
