Police to Georgia Hit-and-Run Driver: Turn Yourself In
HENRY COUNTY, GA. – As reported online in a story at fox5atlanta.com, police in Henry County, Georgia, have a message for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run: Turn yourself in. The missing driver was one of two who hit a man in Henry County, and police are actively searching for him or her.*
The victim of the fatal accident was 66-year-old Robert Jones. Reports indicate he was walking on Highway 20 in Henry County at about 6:30 a.m. and was struck by a truck near the Waffle House. It appears Jones was walking to the area McDonalds where he worked. The driver of the truck stopped, and as cars around stopped, too, a second vehicle passed the traffic and also hit Jones. This driver did not stay at the scene.
Henry County police are looking for the missing vehicle and driver and want the driver to know that things will only become worse the longer he or she is on the run. It’s time for this person to turn him- or herself in, officers said. Friends and family of Jones are in agreement and want the driver to surrender to police.
“Just come forward and deal with it like a man,” said Shane Craven. Craven worked with Jones at H-3 Ministries, an organization that partners with local churches to provide people food and prayer. “You know, nobody’s really pointing a finger and accusing that person of murder or anything like that,” Craven said.
People who knew Jones describe him as constantly helping people, passionate about outreach. He worked frequently with his local church and H-3 Ministries and would often give food and assistance to people at a motel behind the McDonalds where he worked.
“He was just a great person,” said Zontez Cloud, who stays at the motel. “If you were down, he’d lift you up.”
