Pedestrian Dies of Injuries After Cobb County, Georgia, Collision

COBB COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report from, a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in Cobb County, Georgia, has now died of his injuries. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.*

Wilder Esteban Vincente, 28, attempted to walk across Powder Springs Street in Marietta, Georgia. Near Chestnut Hill Road, a 2008 Infiniti G35 struck Vincente. Vincente might have run into the roadway, according to reports, giving Whited little time to react. Emergency crews took Vincente to Kennestone Hospital with severe injuries, and he died at the hospital on January 1. 

Police identified the driver of the Infiniti as 36-year-old Michael Whited. Whited remained at the scene of the accident and was interviewed by police. Officers said Whited continues to be cooperative, and no charges are expected to be filed against him. 

“Our prayers go out to the friends and family of all involved,” said Officer Jared Rakestraw. “Always use designated crosswalks and … look both ways before crossing the road.”

Cobb is a county in northwestern Georgia with approximately 755,000 people countywide, making it one of the more populated counties in the state. Marietta is the county seat of Cobb. 

The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has data indicating that Cobb County sees many traffic crashes every year. More than 11,700 vehicle accidents occurred in Cobb County in 2012, from which 2,860 injuries resulted, as well as 47 fatalities. In 2016, vehicle crashes rose to almost 35,000 total, causing 8,470 injuries, and 59 fatalities.
