Woman Killed in Four-Vehicle Crash in Gainesville, Georgia

January 07, 2019

GAINESVILLE, GA. – A woman was killed in a four-vehicle crash January 1 in Gainesville, Georgia, according to an online news report from gainesvilletimes.com. The woman was a passenger in a car, and the driver of the car has been criminally charged in connection with her death.*

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on January 1, 61-year-old John Brown, of Lake City, Georgia, was driving a 2001 Cadillac Deville southbound on Ga. 13. He attempted to turn left onto the Interstate 985 South ramp and drove into the path of a northbound 2009 Nissan 370Z on Ga. 13.

The Nissan crashed into the passenger’s side of the Cadillac, and the Cadillac continued toward the interstate and struck a 2017 Hyundai Elantra that was stopped on the I-985 ramp. The impact caused the Hyundai to roll backward and hit a 2010 GMC Acadia that was also stopped on the ramp.

A passenger in the Cadillac, 56-year-old Shari Brown, of Lake City, died in the crash. John Brown was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with unknown injuries. Upon discharge from treatment, he will be transferred to police custody, as he has been charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, and failure to yield. A court date has not yet been announced.

The driver of the Nissan, who has not been identified, sustained minor injuries. It is not clear whether he or she was transported anywhere for treatment. The drivers of the Hyundai and the GMC, who have also not been identified, were not injured.

Georgia State Patrol and local prosecutors are continuing to investigate the crash and have not yet reported additional information.
