January 04, 2019

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. – A woman is still in critical condition after a deadly crash that occurred on Christmas Eve in Lawrenceville, Georgia, according to an online news article from ajc.com. Two people tragically died in the crash.*

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on December 24, officers with the Lawrenceville Police Department responded to the scene of an accident at 245 Johnson Road. An Acura had collided with a Mercedes and crashed into a pole on the corner of Johnson Road and Grayland Hills Drive, between Lawrenceville Highway and Five Forks Road.

Upon preliminary investigation, it appears the driver of the Acura, 34-year-old Saad Varney, of Lawrenceville, was driving westbound on Johnson Road and lost control of the vehicle. Varney then crossed into the eastbound lanes of the road and struck a Mercedes, then crashed into a pole. Varney died at the scene. A passenger in the Acura also died at the scene. He has been identified as 34-year-old Dionte Jordan, of Decatur, Georgia.

The driver of the Mercedes, Eunice Johnson, of Gwinnett County, Georgia (age not reported), was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment. Updated reports indicate Johnson is still in critical condition at the hospital. Her family members say she was on her way home from the grocery store and was going to start Christmas Eve dinner at the time of the crash.

It is not yet clear what caused Varney to lose control of the Acura. Lawrenceville police officers are still investigating the crash and have not released additional information at this time.
