Four People Injured in Vehicle Crash on Thigpen Trail in Moultrie, Georgia

MOULTRIE, GA. – According to an online news report from, four people were injured Christmas Eve in a vehicle crash on Thigpen Trail in Moultrie, Georgia. The intersection where the accident occurred is well-known to residents as a dangerous area.*

A 71-year-old Gladys Hicks, of Tallahassee, Florida, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet HR northbound on Thigpen Trail. Hicks came to the intersection with Highway 37 and stopped at the stop sign, then proceeded into the highway. She traveled into the path of a westbound 2004 GMC Yukon, and the two vehicles collided. 

Hicks was transported to Colquitt Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the GMC, 28-year-old Betty Trimble, of Moultrie, and two passengers in her vehicle were also transported to Colquitt Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. One of the passengers in the GMC was a 2-year-old child. All four people were treated and have since been released. 

Residents and officials of Moultrie recognize the intersection of Thigpen Trail and Highway 37 as one where accidents frequently occur. GPS devices reportedly route drivers traveling from Tallahassee to Atlanta along Thigpen Trail. Law enforcement officers say they frequently issue speeding tickets on the road, often to people from out of state, and they have received numerous calls from residents about lost motorists knocking on their doors. 

In November 2017, a driver from Florida pulled from Thigpen Trail onto Highway 37 and collided with a semi-truck. A 24-year-old woman from Atlanta who was riding in the car died in the collision.
