Vehicle Crash in Savannah, GA, Leaves One Dead, One Seriously Injured

SAVANNAH, GA. – According to an online news story from wsav.com, a vehicle wreck in Savannah, Georgia, left one person dead and one seriously injured. It appears only one vehicle was involved.*

A 35-year-old man (city not reported) was driving an Infiniti QX56 northbound on Abercorn Street in Savannah. Near East 58th Street, Bolton lost control of the vehicle and drove off the roadway, hitting several trees on the east shoulder. After impact, the vehicle overturned. 

Bolton was seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Bolton’s current medical condition has not been reported. A passenger in the car, a female (age and city not reported), was critically injured in the crash and also transported to a hospital. Albany tragically died at the hospital. 

Authorities do not yet know what caused the crash. The Traffic Investigation Unit of the Savannah Police Department is handling the investigation and has not yet reported additional information. 

Savannah is located in Chatham County on the eastern border of the state of Georgia. Data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety shows the county sees a large number of traffic accidents each year, and its accident rate is rising rapidly. 

In 2012, a total of 5,659 traffic accidents occurred in Chatham County, resulting in 1,388 injuries and 20 deaths. These numbers rose dramatically over five years, jumping to 15,806 vehicle accidents in the county in 2016, resulting in 3,760 injuries and 43 deaths. The highest number of vehicle crash deaths in the county during the five-year period between 2012 and 2016 occurred in 2015. A total of 54 people died in vehicle accidents in Chatham County that year. Almost half of the fatality accidents that year involved speeding or alcohol.
