Teen Killed in Crash Between Truck, School Bus in Indiana

December 26, 2018

ARGOS, IN. – A teenager was killed in a crash between a truck and a school bus in Argos, Indiana, according to an online news report from time.com. Another teenager was injured in the crash.*

At approximately 9 p.m. a bus with the Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation was carrying 38 students and three adults for a field trip to see a Christmas musical in Warsaw, Indiana. The bus was traveling on U.S. 31 and stopped before a set of railroad tracks near Argos (Indiana law requires buses to stop at railroad crossings). The bus was starting to accelerate across the tracks, when a flatbed truck towing a trailer slammed into the bus from behind.

A teenage boy who was riding in the left rear of the bus, right where the truck hit, tragically died in the collision. No information has yet been released about the boy, as authorities are trying to notify his relatives. Another teenage boy, 14, was injured in the crash and airlifted to a hospital in South Bend, Arkansas. His injuries are reportedly non-life threatening. His name has not been released.

The other students on the bus were transported to a hospital in Plymouth, Indiana, to be evaluated and were then picked up by their parents. The driver of the bus and the driver of the truck have not been identified. No information was reported about whether they were injured. Police said both drivers would undergo a toxicology analysis to see if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Police do not believe weather contributed to the crash. No additional information has been reported about the accident at this time.
