SUV, School Bus Collide in Garden City, Georgia; No Serious Injuries Reported

December 28, 2018

GARDEN CITY, GA. – According to an online news report from wsav.com, an SUV and a school bus collided in Garden City, Georgia. No one was seriously injured in the crash.*

An SUV collided with a school bus carrying 56 students from Gould Elementary School. The crash occurred at the intersection of Salt Creek Road and Pineland Drive in Garden City. Police are not yet sure who caused the crash.

After impact, the SUV ran off the road and overturned in a ditch. Five people were inside the vehicle, including an infant. Aside from scrapes and bruises, no one in the SUV or in the bus was injured. No one involved has been identified.

The 56 elementary school students were transferred onto another school bus to be transported home. The bus and the SUV both had to be towed from the scene. Authorities are still investigating the crash and have not released additional information at this time. The school has not released a statement about the accident.

After a string of fatal bus accidents around the nation, the National Transportation Safety Board has recommended that all school buses in the country have seat belts. Under current federal law, school buses weighing less than 10,000 pounds are required to have seat belts. Larger school buses are not required to have them by federal law, but some states have passed legislation requiring seat belts on all buses. Seven states in the U.S. to date have passed such legislation: Arkansas, California, Florida, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, and Texas.
