Georgia Troopers Still Working at Scene of Wreck that Killed Baldwin County Child

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. – According to an online news report from unionrecorder.com, Georgia State Patrol Troopers are still working at the scene of a vehicle wreck that killed a Baldwin County, Georgia child.*

The crash occurred when a Toyota RAV4 failed to yield when entering Ga. 29 at Hillendale Drive and was struck by a southbound Dodge Avenger at a high rate of speed. It is not yet clear why the driver of the Toyota failed to yield. 

The driver of the Toyota and the driver of the Dodge were both seriously injured. The Toyota driver, 29-year-old Brooke Shelton, of Monticello, Georgia, was airlifted to the Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia. The Dodge driver, 24-year-old Breonna Russell, of Milledgeville, was transported via ambulance to the Medical Center of Baldwin County, Navicent Health in Milledgeville. 

Three children were also riding in the Dodge. A 6-year-old boy was critically injured and transported to the Medical Center of Baldwin County, Navicent Health, where he died about two hours later. He was a kindergartener at Lakeview Primary School. 

A 1-year-old child was also transported to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, with injuries. The third child, age 3, and was taken to the Medical Center of Baldwin County, Navicent Health via private vehicle. It does not appear this child was injured in the wreck. 

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Reconstruction Collision Team are still investigating the collision and have been continually working at the scene, gathering evidence. They were at the scene on December 4 and scheduled to go back again the following day. Their continued investigation has not yet resulted in release of any updated information.
