ARLINGTON, SD. – According to an online news report from usnews.com, one person was injured in a fiery crash that involved four tractor-trailers on a highway in Arlington, South Dakota. Little information has been released about the crash at this time.*

The crash occurred on Highway 14 in Arlington. It is not clear what caused the accident, but four tractor-trailers somehow collided, and a fire broke out after impact. It is not clear how many of the trucks were involved in the fire.

South Dakota Highway Patrol says one person was transported to a local hospital with injuries. It appears this person was driving one of the tractor-trailers. The victim has not been identified, nor has anyone else involved in the crash. The extent of the victim’s injuries and his or her medical condition is not known. According to an article from the National Fire Protection Association, between 2003 and 2007, fire departments throughout the United States responded to almost 290,000 vehicle fires each year. These fires caused annual averages of 480 deaths, 1,525 injuries, and $1.3 billion in property damage. On average, 31 highway vehicle fires were reported every hour during this time period.

Ninety-three percent of reported vehicle fires and 92 percent of vehicle fire fatalities involve highway vehicles, such as cars, trucks, buses, RVs, and motorcycles.
