Pedestrian Hit by Car in Putnam County, Georgia

December 26, 2018

PUTNAM COUNTY, GA. – A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Putnam County, Georgia, according to an online news report at unionrecorder.com. Authorities suspect the man might have intended for a vehicle to strike him.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reports that 29-year-old Malcolm Kennaugh-Easterby, of Milledgeville, Georgia, was struck by a 2014 Cadillac on U.S. Highway 441 in Putnam County. The incident occurred near the intersection of Pea Ridge and Twin Bridges Road.

Kennaugh-Easterby was critically injured and flown to the Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia. He remains hospitalized in critical condition. The driver of the Cadillac, 75-year-old Onaria Youngblood, of Jesup, Georgia, was not injured. Youngblood stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

“Witnesses said that Kennaugh-Easterby ran from the grass median into the path of Ms. Youngblood,” said Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills. “Another witness in another vehicle said that Kennaugh-Easterby had also intentionally ran in front of his vehicle, but he was able to swerve and avoid hitting [the victim]. We suspect he may have been intoxicated or may have been intentionally trying to get struck by a vehicle.”

Sheriff Sills added that witnesses said Kennaugh-Easterby had been behaving “erratically” before the crash. The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released at this time.

Putnam County, according to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, was the site of 619 vehicle accidents in 2016. This was a significant increase from the year prior, when 57 vehicle accidents occurred in the county.
