The crash occurred at 2:14 p.m. on Macon Road/U.S. 80 in Columbus. A man and a woman who were reportedly staying at the Colony Inn on Victory Drive were riding a scooter eastbound on Macon Road, when they were rear-ended by a Jeep Renegade.

The woman, identified as 33-year-old Toni McChargue, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed in Decatur, Georgia. The man, identified as 30-year-old Jeremy Blankenship, was injured and transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional midtown campus for treatment. He died of his injuries the next day.
