Truck Crashes into Home in Templeton, Massachusetts

December 24, 2018

TEMPLETON, MA. – A pickup truck crashed into a home in Templeton, Massachusetts according to an online news story from The truck narrowly missed a woman who was asleep on her couch.*

Tracy Samuels, of Templeton, was sleeping on her living room couch and woke up to a loud crash. She said she jumped up and said to herself, “Why is there a truck in my living room?”

A pickup truck driving down her road had crashed all the way through her living room wall and barely missed the spot where she had been sleeping. It is not yet clear what caused the crash, and the driver of the truck has not been identified. It is not clear whether the driver was injured.

The Samuels’ home has been temporarily condemned. The crash destroyed the family Christmas tree in the living room and Christmas gifts that were under the tree, but Tracy’s husband, Jason, says he is grateful. The tree and gifts are replaceable, he said, but his wife of 27 years is not.

The crash is still under investigation, and no additional information has been reported.

As shocking as they seem, occurrences of cars crashing into homes and buildings are not all that rare. Several of these crashes occur every day around the United States, causing damage to property and injuries to people. Many of these accidents are caused by inattentive or distracted driving, driving under the influence, and pedal error or gear error. A lot of drivers who crash into storefronts and homes are found to have pressed on the accelerator when they believed they were pressing on the brake. Many are also found to have been in “drive” when they thought they were in “reverse.”
