Man Saves Georgia Woman From Serious Car Accident in South Carolina

December 28, 2018

HARDEEVILLE, SC. – According to an online news story at, a man driving along Interstate 95 in South Carolina ended up saving a Georgia woman from a serious car accident.*

Michael Paoli, of Crystal River, South Carolina, was driving on Interstate 95 and saw something unusual when he exited near the junction with U.S. 17 by Hardeeville, South Carolina. He says he saw debris in the road and a man standing on the side of the road, waving his arms frantically.

Paoli pulled over and got out of his truck. He approached the man on the road, who was then pointing down to a Buick SUV overturned near a tree. Paoli ran to the car and found an unconscious woman inside.

“I patted her on her belly, and she opened her eyes,” Paoli said. “I couldn’t even believe I got in the car. You couldn’t even tell it was a car.”

Paoli and the other man at the scene then pulled 23-year-old Mia Deloach, of Savannah, out of the vehicle, right as emergency responders were arriving. Authorities believe from their preliminary investigation that the 2018 Buick was traveling south on U.S. 17 and left the roadway. The vehicle then struck a barrier, a light pole, and a tree before overturning and landing on its roof.

Deloach was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Buick, 23-year-old Kavon Jones, of Savannah, Georgia, was also transported to the hospital. Officials are still investigating the accident.

Paoli said he didn’t know what compelled him to pull over or to dive right into the mangled car, but he felt like he was at the right place at the right time.
