Wreck Backs up Traffic Along I-85 in Gwinnett County, Georgia

It is not yet clear what caused the accident. The collision occurred in the southbound lanes of I-85, near Ga. 316, in Gwinnett County. The circumstances of the crash were not reported. It is not clear how many vehicles were involved, and no information about injuries was reported.

In 2016, a total of 41,527 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 9,436 injuries and 61 deaths.
The highest number of vehicle fatalities from 2012 to 2016 occurred in 2015, when 67 people died in motor vehicle accidents. Almost half of those fatality accidents involved alcohol or excessive speeding. Fourteen of the people killed were pedestrians, and one was a bicyclist.
