Single-Vehicle Accident Blocks I-20 in Douglas County, Georgia

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA. – As reported online by, a single-vehicle accident blocked several lanes on Interstate in Douglas County, Georgia. Minor injuries were reported.* 

A pickup truck pulling a trailer on I-20 West crashed near Lee Road. The trailer tipped over after the accident. It is not yet clear what caused the wreck. One person reportedly sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital and released. This person has not been identified. 

After the crash, several lanes of the interstate were blocked until about 3 p.m. Douglas County authorities are investigating and have not yet reported additional information.

Douglas County is located in the north-central part of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of 144,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 20, U.S. Route 78, and U.S. Route 278. 

Vehicle accidents in Douglas County have risen during the last several years, according to data compiled by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a total of 2,649 vehicle accidents occurred in the county. These accidents led to 914 injuries and 21 deaths. Total accidents increased slightly during the next two years, while the number of traffic fatalities decreased to 19 in 2013 and to 12 in 2014.

However, by 2015, vehicle accidents in Douglas County had jumped to 3,352, causing 883 injuries and 22 deaths. Total accidents climbed to almost 5,000 in 2016, resulting in 1,325 injuries and 21 deaths. About half of the fatal crashes in Douglas County during these years were related to speeding or alcohol.
