Two Injured in Car Accident in Woodstock, Georgia

WOODSTOCK, GA. – According to an online news report from patch.com, two people were injured in a car accident December 13 in Woodstock, Georgia.*

71-year-old Michael Sargent, of Loganville, Georgia, was traveling westbound on Ga. 140 in Woodstock. Near Jep Wheeler Road, Sargent crossed the centerline of the roadway and crashed into an eastbound vehicle. 

Sargent was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, 66-year-old Danny Moulder, of Woodstock, was transported to North Fulton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported that Sargent was cited for failure to maintain a lane. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is still investigating the accident and has not released additional information at this time.

Cherokee County is located in the north-central part of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of approximately 242,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 75, Interstate 575, State Route 5, and State Route 140. 

According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, vehicle accidents in Cherokee County are on the rise. Between 2012 and 2016, the number of crashes in the county more than doubled. The number of injuries from those accidents also nearly doubled. However, the number of fatality accidents seems to be trending down. 

In 2012, 18 fatality vehicle accidents occurred in Cherokee County. That number lowered to 16 in 2013, then to 12 in both 2014 and 2015. By 2016, the number of fatality accidents was down to seven. Most fatal accidents in the county are related to speeding or alcohol or both.
