December 21, 2018

LANCASTER COUNTY, SC. – A man was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Lancaster County, South Carolina, according to an online news report from heraldonline.com.*

51-year-old James Plyler, of Lancaster, was driving a GMC pickup truck northbound on Riverside Road in Lancaster County. Near Van Wyck and the Catawba River, a northbound 2003 BMW attempted to pass Plyler on Riverside Road, and the two vehicles somehow collided. It is not yet clear how the crash occurred.

Plyler died at the scene, according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. Officials said he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck. It is not clear whether the driver of the BMW was injured. This driver has been identified as a 23-year-old man from Lancaster. His name has not been released. It does not appear any passengers were in either vehicle.

No charges have been filed against the BMW driver at this time. The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation team is investigating the crash and has not yet released additional information to the public. Riverside Road was blocked for several hours after the accident to allow emergency crews to investigate and clear the wreckage.
