Driver Airlifted After Tractor-Trailer Collision in Greene County, Tennessee

GREENE COUNTY, TN. – According to an online news report from citizentribune.com, a driver was airlifted to a hospital after colliding with a tractor-trailer in Greene County, Tennessee.*

A Kia Soul collided with a tractor-trailer in the 7100 block of West Andrew Johnson Highway in Mosheim, Tennessee. No details were reported about how the crash occurred. The driver of the Kia was airlifted by Wings Air Rescue to a local hospital. She has not been identified, and her current medical is not known. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who has also not been identified, was transported to a hospital in Greeneville, Tennessee, via Greene County-Greenville EMS. His or her current condition is not known. 

The Tennessee Highway Patrol, Town of Mosheim Fire Department, Greene County Emergency Management Agency, and the Midway Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation and has not yet released additional information about the crash.

Greene County is about 180 miles from the northern border of Georgia, where Whitfield County is located. Whitfield County is part of the Dalton metro area and has an estimated population of approximately 104,600. The county’s major roadways include Interstate 75, U.S. Route 41, and U.S. Route 76. 

According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, vehicle accidents in Whitfield County have increased during the last several years. In 2012, a total of 1,342 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 480 injuries and 13 deaths. These numbers remained relatively steady through 2013 and 2014 but increased in 2015. 

In 2015, 1,701 accidents occurred in Whitfield County, causing 509 injuries and 17 deaths. The following year, accident numbers jumped significantly. The accident total in 2016 was 3,229. These accidents resulted in 861 injuries and 13 deaths.
