One Killed, Two Injured in Tennessee Interstate 65 Crash in Marshall County

MARSHALL COUNTY, TN. – One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in an interstate crash that occurred in Marshall County, Tennessee, according to an online news report from wkrn.com.*

The crash occurred on Interstate 65 in Marshall County. Near mile marker 27, a pickup truck came upon stopped traffic on the interstate and swerved to avoid a collision. The truck then left the roadway, rolled down an embankment and landed on Highway 129. 

Three people were inside the pickup at the time. One of the occupants, 88-year-old Isabelle Lackey, of Huntsville, Alabama, died in the crash. The other two occupants, who have not been identified, were seriously injured. Their current conditions are not known. 

No information was reported about why traffic on the interstate was stopped or why the pickup driver did not see the cars ahead in time to brake. Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and has not released additional information at this time. 

Marshall County is about 115 miles from Dade County, Georgia. Dade County has an estimated population of 16,200, and its major roadways include Interstate 24, Interstate 59, U.S. Route 11, and State Route 136.

Data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety shows vehicle accidents in Dade County have remained relatively steady in the last several years. In 2012, a total of 359 vehicle crashes occurred in the county, leading to 128 injuries and seven fatalities. The total number of accidents increased the following year to 425, but fatal crashes dropped to four. 

Accident numbers in 2014 and 2015 decreased then increased. Fatal crashes climbed back to six in 2014, despite the total accidents declining by 125. In 2016, Dade County saw 372 accidents, which led to 105 injuries and three deaths.
