December 21, 2018

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC. – A pickup broke down December 12 on Interstate 26 on South Carolina, according to an online news report from abccolumbia.com, and the driver was killed in a rear-end collision that followed. The driver’s name has not been released.*

A 1990 GMC pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Interstate 26 in Lexington County, South Carolina. The pickup experienced an unknown mechanical issue and became disabled in the middle lane of the interstate, near mile marker 104. An eastbound 2011 Ford Edge then rear-ended the pickup.

The driver of the pickup, who has not been identified, was transported to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital with critical injuries and tragically died.

Three people were riding in the Ford, and it appears none of them were reportedly injured. Authorities say all occupants of the Ford were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. They did not know whether the driver of the pickup was wearing a seat belt. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident and has not yet reported additional information.
