December 19, 2018

TERRELL, TX. – According to an online news report from dallasnews.com, a truck driver was tragically killed in a collision between two tractor-trailers on Interstate 20, near Terrell, Texas.*

Traffic was already backed up in the area because of an unrelated wreck, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Two tractor-trailers were traveling west in the same lane of I-20, when one of the trucks crashed into the back of the other. Upon impact, the front tractor-trailer caught on fire.

The driver of the back tractor-trailer, who has not been identified, died at the scene. The driver of the front tractor-trailer, who has also not been identified, was not injured in the crash. It is not clear at this time what caused the collision. Texas officials are investigating and have not released additional information.

In Georgia, the corridor of Interstate 285 between Interstate 75 and Interstate 85 is a hotbed for accidents involving large trucks, according to local reports. When these accidents occur, due to their scale, several lanes of the interstate have to be shut down, and gridlock ensues throughout the area. Aside from the traffic backups, these accidents are known for causing serious injuries and fatalities. In 2016, 179 people died in Georgia accidents involving a large truck or bus.

During the week of August 6, 2018, as part of a Large Truck and Bus Enforcement and Educational Initiative, law enforcement officers in Cobb County, Georgia, targeted dangerous truck drivers. In total, the officers issued 932 citations. Almost 600 of these citations were for left lane violations. In addition to lane violations, 12 of the citations were for violations of the Georgia Hands-Free Law, and nine were for speeding.
