SUV and School Bus Collide in Flintstone, Georgia
FLINTSTONE, GA. – According to an online news report from newschannel9.com, an SUV and a school bus collided in Flintstone, Georgia.*
The accident occurred on Happy Valley Road, near Ridgeland High School. Georgia State Patrol says a Ridgeland High student was driving an SUV to school and had frost on his windshield. The student, who has not been identified, turned into the sun and temporarily could not see because of a glare created on the windshield frost. His SUV then ran into the back of a stopped Walker County school bus that was waiting to turn left on Happy Valley Road.
The driver of the SUV and the driver of the bus, who has also not been identified, were not hurt. The Walker County Schools Transportation Director said 29 students were on board the bus at the time — students from Chattanooga Valley Elementary School, Chattanooga Valley Middle School, and Ridgeland High School — and five of those students said they were in pain after the wreck. Those students were evaluated, then picked up by their parents. No one was seriously injured.
The bus was damaged after the crash but not enough to prevent it from driving. As a precaution, the Georgia Department of Transportation will inspect the bus before it goes back on the road for normal school routes.
The driver of the SUV was cited for failure to exercise due care while operating a motor vehicle. No additional information has been released at this time.
