One Killed in Three-Vehicle Accident on Illinois Highway

FULTON, IL. – According to an online news report from, one person was killed in a three-vehicle accident on an Illinois highway.*

The crash on Illinois 84 and Covell Road in Fulton, Illinois. A 2005 Chrysler van traveling south on Highway 84 crossed the centerline of the roadway and crashed into a northbound 2012 Ford pickup truck. A northbound 2009 Honda Civic then crashed into the Chrysler. 

The driver of the Chrysler, 73-year-old Judith K. Pray, of Clinton, Iowa, died at the scene, according to the Whiteside County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Ford, 65-year-old Ronald J. Ferris, of Savanna, Illinois, and the driver of the Honda, 21-year-old Manuel Beltran, of Savanna, were both injured and transported to Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Illinois. The extent of their injuries and their current medical conditions are not known. 

It is not yet clear what caused Pray to cross the centerline of the road and travel into oncoming traffic. The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, the Fulton Police Department, Fulton Fire and EMS, the Thomson Police Department, Thomson Fire and EMS, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and Illinois State Police responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by local authorities, and no additional information has been released at this time.

The fatal crash rates in the U.S. are highest when measured both by population (10.3 deaths per every 100,000 people) and by registered vehicles ( 1.24 deaths per every 10,000 registered vehicles). The U.S. also has the fifth-highest rate of motor vehicle deaths based on miles traveled (1.10 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled).
