Tractor-Trailer Crashes on Highway 25 in Waynesboro, Georgia

WAYNESBORO, GA. – According to an online news report from, a tractor-trailer crashed on Highway 25 in Waynesboro, Georgia, on December 9. The crash shut down the highway for several hours.*

The crash occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on December 9 on the Highway 25 bypass, near the Walmart in Waynesboro. Officials say one tractor-trailer was involved, and no one was seriously injured. It is not clear how the crash occurred at this time. 

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the Waynesboro Police Department, the Waynesboro Fire Department, Burke County EMA, the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division responded to the scene. The southbound lanes of Highway 25 were closed in the area for several hours. 

Authorities are still investigating and have not yet released additional information. 

Waynesboro is located in Burke County on the eastern border of the state of Georgia. Geographically, Burke is one of the largest counties in the state, but it has a small population for its size: approximately 22,500. The county’s major roadways include U.S. Route 25, State Route 17, State Route 56, and State Route 121. 

A total of 371 vehicle accidents occurred in Burke County in 2015, according to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. These accidents resulted in 137 injuries and three deaths. 

The following year, accident numbers climbed significantly. A total of 661 accidents occurred in the county in 2016, resulting in 150 injuries and eight deaths. Half of the fatal accidents that year were related to alcohol.
