One Killed, Three Injured in Washington Tractor-Trailers Crash in Sprague, Washington

December 14, 2018

SPRAGUE, WA. – One person was killed and three people were injured December 12, 2018 in a tractor-trailer crash in Sprague, Washington, according to an online news report from krem.com.*

The crash occurred on the morning of December 12 on Interstate 90. Two tractor-trailers somehow collided in the westbound lanes of the interstate, about five miles east of Sprague, according to Washington State Patrol. Troopers said one person died in the crash, and three people were injured and transported to local hospitals. None of the victims has been identified.

It is not yet clear how the crash occurred. Troopers did not identify a cause and said they did not yet know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the wreck. The crash investigation is ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time.

In Georgia, the corridor of Interstate 285 between Interstate 75 and Interstate 85 is the site of frequent accidents involving large trucks and buses, according to local reports. When these accidents occur, due to their scale, several lanes of the interstate have to be shut down, and gridlock ensues throughout the area. These accidents are also known for causing serious injuries and fatalities. In 2016, 179 people died on Georgia roads in accidents that involved a bus or a large truck.

During the week of August 6, as part of a Large Truck and Bus Enforcement and Educational Initiative, law enforcement officers in Cobb County targeted dangerous drivers in the corridor. In total, the officers issued 932 citations. Almost 600 of these citations were for left lane violations. In Georgia, it is illegal for large trucks and buses to drive in the left lane. In addition to lane violations, 12 of the citations were for violations of the Georgia Hands-Free Law, and nine were for speeding.
