Head-On Collision Leaves Two Men Dead in Dawson County, Georgia
DAWSON COUNTY, GA. – A December 10, 2018 in head-on vehicle collision in Dawson County, Georgia, left two men dead, according to an online news report from wgauradio.com. The details of the accident are still not clear.*
At approximately 1:20 p.m. on December 10, 63-year-old Colquitt Juanez Thompson, of Dahlonega, Georgia, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Ga. 400 in Dawson County. Near Henry Grady Highway, a southbound 2003 Lincoln Town Car crossed into the northbound lanes of Ga. 400 and struck Thompson’s Chevy head-on.
Thompson died at the scene. The driver of the Lincoln, 56-year-old Tony Ray Chastain, of Dawsonville, Georgia, also died at the scene. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, per Georgia State Patrol. No passengers were in either vehicle.
Officials say Chastain somehow lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, crossed over the median, and drove into the northbound lanes. It is not clear why. Distracted driving, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the accident, according to a report from Georgia State Patrol. In addition, wet road conditions do not appear to have caused the accident, according to Troopers, even though rain was in the area at the time.
The northbound lanes of Ga. 400 were shut down after the crash until about 3:30 p.m. to allow crews to investigate and clear the wreckage. No additional information has been released about the crash at this time.
